More and more foreign films and TV works have been introduced into China. Here we can not do without the work of subtitle translators. What are the constraints of subtitle translation?
the first is the restriction of space. Film subtitle translation must determine the number of lines and font size according to the actor's mouth shape and screen size. Because the film subtitles and actors speak at exactly the same time. Therefore, the length of the subtitle has a great impact on the audience's appreciation of the film, too long or too short will affect the expression of the film. Therefore, it is difficult for the interpreter to think carefully and express the speaker's meaning perfectly and accurately.
Secondly, the restriction of time. One is the time spent by the viewer to read the subtitles, the other is the duration of the picture in the film. The duration of dialogue between the characters in the film is the same as that of the screen. The time gap of subtitle browsing is caused by various reasons, such as the differences of audience's understanding ability, culture, knowledge and so on. This requires the interpreter to take into account these factors and to control the length of the letters.
Thirdly, cultural differences. Due to the differences in living environment and history and culture, each country has its own characteristics, and the differences between cultures are also growing. Therefore, subtitle translation needs to take these into consideration: "language is the carrier of culture, and the meaning of any text directly or indirectly reflects a corresponding culture." The film and television works are a carrier of cultural transmission and absorption. Subtitle translation is a bridge, and subtitle translation is the transformation of two different languages.
